William Smith
William Smith - 2026 NLC Orange County Fellow
William Smith is a senior R&D engineer in the medical-device industry, currently in the cardiovascular space. A first-generation university graduate from UC Irvine with a degree in Biomedical Engineering, William served as chapter president of Nu Alpha Kappa fraternity, where he established new recruitment lines, an annual minority research symposium, and executive leadership retreats.
Deeply influenced by his mother’s immigrant journey and a traumatic hospital experience due to language barriers, William volunteered as a Spanish-language medical translator and later co-developed a neonatal opioid-withdrawal device that secured an SBIR grant. A former board member of the Orange County Hispanic Youth Chamber of Commerce and alumni advisor for the OC Fellowship, he is committed to advancing minority leadership, systemic healthcare equity, and community philanthropy in Southern California.
