Mussab Ali - 2024 NLC New Jersey Fellow

Mussab Ali (he/him) is a dedicated public servant and advocate for equitable education. Passionate about representing marginalized communities, he previously served as the President of the Jersey City Board of Education. As the youngest elected official in Jersey City and the first Muslim in this role in the U.S., he has focused on initiatives like halal school lunches and dress code reforms. Battling cancer, Mussab remains committed to his community, working on a non-profit to train future activists and leaders. A graduate of Rutgers-Newark University, Mussab achieved Phi Beta Kappa honors and was named a Truman Scholar and later pursued his studies at Harvard Law where he was student body co-president.

Living in Jersey City, Mussab enjoys engaging with local communities and fostering the growth of young leaders. His journey in public service, starting from a grassroots campaign, reflects his deep commitment to inclusivity and representation in education and governance.
