Shayla McElroy - Detroit
Shayla McElroy (she/her) is a trained Mental Health Counselor and has managed corporate DEI discussions for over 200 corporate leaders in five countries.
Her background and passion are with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated individuals. Having provided substance abuse counseling and rehabilitation services to incarcerated youth and women. She moved back to metro Detroit from California, where she served as unit manager for an in-custody substance abuse program for incarcerated women. Shayla currently works for the City of Detroit, as a Project Manager for Project Clean Slate, which provides free expungement services to eligible Detroit residents. She intends to use her skills to improve the systems that create barriers for formerly incarcerated individuals.
Shayla earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Hampton University and her master’s degree in clinical Mental Health Counseling from Western Michigan University.
