MJ Wong Engel (she/her) is a political educator and community organizer committed to imagining and building an environmentally just world. In her current role as the AAPI Coalitions Manager at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, MJ builds progressive AAPI power in electoral politics. Previously, she designed and taught ninth and tenth grade English at Phillips Academy Andover, a residential independent boarding school in Andover, MA. As a Fulbright Scholar, MJ researched the burgeoning coffee-growing industry on Mangzhang Coffee Farm in Yunnan, China. MJ has also volunteered as a humanitarian aid worker with No More Deaths/No Mas Muertes in the Sonoran Desert. MJ holds a B.A. in Sustainable Development and Women and Gender Studies from Columbia University. She is a 2019-2021 Specialty Coffee Association LEAD Scholar. Born and raised between Milwaukee, WI and San Francisco, CA, MJ resides in Milwaukee's Riverwest neighborhood. Your friendly neighborhood bookworm, you can spot MJ nestled in coffee shops, nose deep in a novel. She loves running and hiking along Wisconsin's wondrous waters and dabbles in guitar, ceramics, and filmmaking.
