Mayra Flor Castro Martinez - Los Angeles

Mayra Castro Martinez (she/her) is a communicator and immigrant rights advocate. As someone who is directly impacted by the country’s immigration system, she is deeply committed to seeking legalization for the millions of undocumented community members. Mayra currently works for Faith in Action, as a communications manager. Her communications role focuses on Faith in Action’s immigration campaign through LA RED (seeking to nationally dismantle the mass deportation machine and immigrant detention, ending local contracts with ICE, and stopping the cooperation between local governments and ICE), in addition to their voter program. Mayra earned a double B.A. in Political Science and Journalism from California State University, Long Beach. In 2019, she was appointed to the Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee for the Compton Community College District.

In her free time, Mayra enjoys listening to Taylor Swift, reading, sewing and watching documentaries. Mayra believes in access to education regardless of status, which led her to found the Thriving Community Scholarship at her alma mater Paramount High School. The scholarship seeks to empower undocumented graduating seniors at PHS to pursue higher education and become involved in their community.
