Marilyn Alvarez - Los Angeles
Marilyn Alvarez is a champion for educational equity who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Cal State Northridge and a Master of Public Administration from USC.
Marilyn was born and raised in South Central LA and has dedicated her career to increasing the social capital of underrepresented students throughout LA. She first worked at LA Education Partnership, developing cross-sectoral partnerships to improve student achievement. She's managed after-school programs in Santa Monica and Watts, where she provided enrichment opportunities for students and supported parents in advocating for the needs of their children. While working at ScholarMatch, she helped open the organization’s second college drop-in center and worked alongside students to make their college aspirations possible. She currently works for LAUSD School Board Member Ortiz Franklin as the Family & Community Engagement Manager to ensure the voices of community members, students and families help influence big decisions coming to the Board.
