Senior Development Associate, Sacred Heart Community Service
Laura Alvarez-Santos is a native of the Bay Area. While in high school, Laura developed a strong interest in diversity and inclusion and became an avid participant of the Latinx cultural club. She went on to attend the 2011 Student Leadership Diversity Conference. After high school, Laura attended Boston University where she received her undergraduate degree in International Relations. This degree program allowed her to concentrate her studies on Latin American Policy and Sustainable Development. While in Boston, she worked with the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Advancement and volunteered with the Latinx Action Group to register voters in Chelsea, MA. After graduating, Laura pursued a career in fundraising at local Bay Area nonprofit organizations. She first served as a Development Assistant with Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health on the Major Gifts team. Most currently, Laura serves as a Senior Development Associate for Sacred Heart Community Service. In this role, she secures grants for the policy, education, and urban gardening programs. In addition, she works with communications strategy, to uplift community members’ stories. In 2017, Laura was accepted as a cohort member for the Latina Coalition’s Engaged Latina Leadership Activist (ELLA) Program. The ELLA program focuses on building the next generation of Latinx leaders in Santa Clara County. As part of the program, she conducted in-depth research with her group on the incarceration rates of women and girls. Shortly after, she joined the ELLA Committee, where she helped plan the upcoming program and served for two years, working with powerful womxn across different industries. In 2021, Laura will continue her education by pursuing a Master of Public Administration degree, with a focus on Social Policy. She is excited about the opportunity to learn how to develop policy solutions and local government management.
