Organizer, Grassroots Law Project

Carson Malbrough currently serves as an Organizer at the Grassroots Law Project, an advocacy organization that aims to protect civil rights and transform the U.S. criminal legal system. Carson plays a pivotal role in the execution of the GLP’s national political campaigns and policy advocacy. Carson also works closely with members of the Grassroots Law Project’s legal team on projects centered around researching and drafting legislation to advance the organization’s policy agenda at the state and local level. nnCarson is a native Californian born and raised in Los Angeles. Before working for the Grassroots Law Project, Carson worked on a state assembly race in Orange County where he served as a campaign manager for Irvine City Councilmember Melissa Fox in her bid for 68th Assembly District seat. Carson has also worked on highly competitive political campaigns across the country, having previously served as a Senior Field Manager on Congressman Beto O’Rourke’s 2018 campaign for U.S. Senate in Texas and as a Regional Field Organizer on Governor Roy Cooper’s 2016 gubernatorial campaign in North Carolina.nnCarson proudly identifies as a progressive and has many goals for his career. He plans to attend law school in the fall of 2021 to merge his political organizing experience with community-oriented legal advocacy. As he gains his legal education, Carson also aspires to use the skills he gains to advance the work of the Grassroots Law Project legal team. In the future, Carson has plans to run for public office, hoping to start at the local level or the state level. Should he have an opportunity to serve in such a role, Carson would seek to build a robust partnership with his community to pursue lasting structural changes on issues such as healthcare, climate change, housing and economic justice. In his free time Carson enjoys playing basketball, scooter and bike riding, cooking and cheering on the Lakers, Dodgers, Seahawks and LAFC.
