Asiata Teah - Rhode Island

Asiata Teah (she/her) currently works at a non-profit organization serving student parents and young mothers. She also attends URI. Asiata came to the United States on a student visa from Libera in 2000. Unfortunately, once it expired, she was placed on a deportation list. Being on that list turned her life upside down. She could not work or go to school, and her family back in Libera depended on her to support them. However, she did not give up. Asiata has fought to stay in this country. She is back in school, working two jobs, a mom to a beautiful 3-year-old boy, and she and her husband and own their home. What drives Asiata is knowing that people can do incredible things when you give them the opportunity and support. These strategies have enabled her to build and sustain partnerships and trust with the families she supports.
