Ángel J Martínez – Los Angeles
Ángel J Martínez (he/she/they) is currently the Associate Director for COVID-19 Equity Collaborative at the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. He is a health professional and advocate whose work centers social justice in community health equity, population health, community-based participatory research, public health, health policy, and global health. He continues to focus on issues that impact and improve the quality of life for communities of color, indigenous, LGBTQ, and low-income and under-resourced communities locally and internationally. His experience with Community Based Organizations (CBOs) with a strong focus on outreach and engagement has allowed him to forge partnerships between community, academia and government.
He is born and raised in Los Angeles a community filled with vibrant languages, beautiful cultures, and a history of struggle that bridges his passion for health and justice. Outside of all the work he loves movement, whether it’s CrossFit, outdoors, dancing and most recently learning to surf with a BIPOC surf community in Los Angeles. Ángel is an alumnus of UC Santa Cruz with a BA in Community Studies, completed a Pre-Medicine Post-Baccalaureate Certificate from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science and received his MS in Global Medicine from the University of Southern California.
