Ama Akoto - Washington DC

Ama Akoto (she/her) is a Black feminist writer from Washington, D.C. with a love for romance stories in all forms, but especially novels. She is a dancer, poet, sister, and gamer—if you only count The Sims. Ama’s organizing work has included mentorship, mutual aid, and fundraising through Frontline Women DC, which she co-founded alongside other women and gender-expansive people in her community.
Ama holds a bachelor of arts degree in English-Creative Writing, with a minor in Women’s & Gender Studies from NC Central. She hopes to continue fighting against unjust systems, in part by expanding on the narrative research projects she began during her undergraduate studies. She is particularly interested in studying community relationships and ideology, with a keen focus on Black girls, women and gender-expansive people.

Ama currently lives in Virginia with her partner, cat, and dog and works as a communications professional in immigration and criminal legal reform.
