Alex ChiuTufts University, Chaplaincy Coordinator
Alex Chiu was born and raised in Malden, Massachusetts. She is currently at Tufts University. In the Fall of 2018 she started her Masters in Public Policy at the Urban, Environmental and Planning Program. She is also the Chaplaincy Coordinator at the Tufts University Chaplaincy. In this role, she ensures effective and efficient operations of the University Chaplaincy, specifically her passion is with the guidance and supervision of the University Chaplaincy student staff program. Before going to Tufts, Alex worked with the Safe Schools Program for LGBTQ Students, a joint initiative of the Massachusetts Department for Elementary and Secondary Education and the Massachusetts Commission for LGBTQ Students.
Starting from middle school she attended the Academy of the Pacific Rim in Hyde Park, Massachusetts. In her youth, she spent a lot of time with youth centered social justice organizations like The City School and the Coalition for Asian Pacific American Youth (CAPAY). Alex was the first in her family to complete her Bachelor of Arts degree which she received in Government and East Asian Students from Smith College. After university, she spent the majority of her career teaching. She first taught English at Chungdahmn in South Korea and returned to Boston as a CoaHCorp Member for the City on a Hill Charter Public School in Roxbury. She has also worked as an English Language Arts Instructor for the New England Hebrew Academy in Brookline. After, Alex served in the Peace Corps as a teacher in Lamongan, East Java, Indonesia, where she gained experience in teaching, community development, and program management. Alex is dedicated to building her community and promoting social justice.
