Born and raised in Arlington, Massachusetts, Tom is a recent Maine transplant. He spent 7 years in Amherst, Massachusetts, where he studied Psychology (BA) and School Counseling (M.Ed., Ed.S.). Upon completion of his graduate degrees, he moved to Maine in 2016 to promote youth development, help young students unlock their potential, and take in all that Maine’s outdoors has to offer. He currently works as a high school counselor, helping students navigate life in high school and set goals for the future. During this time, he has been serving as Class Advisor for the Class of 2020. In this role, he has organized class elections, large events in the community, fundraising projects, and more.
Since high school, Tom has had a strong interest in organizational development, leadership theory and practice, values-based decision-making, and understanding the effects of individual choices on greater social phenomena. As a college freshman at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he co-founded the Sigma Alpha Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, a national social music fraternity. In his involvement, he held the positions of Treasurer and Fraternity Education Officer, both with an emphasis on fundraising, orienting and educating new members, and facilitating leadership development programming. He offered his time to other greek life and on-campus organizations through delivery of experiential activities. He was also an enthusiastic trombonist in the UMass Marching Band, where he worked as the Library Manager to copy, distribute, and catalog music and drill charts for nearly 400 band members each year.
Since 2011, Tom has been working with the Foundation for Teaching Economics. As a Program Coordinator and Student Administrator, Tom leads weeklong leadership programs for high school and rising college students at prestigious universities around the United States. In this role, he writes leadership development curricula grounded in experiential education, facilitates small and large group discussions, guides conflict-resolution and group decision-making processes, and evaluates program outcomes to connect and reinforce to organization’s objectives. Tom aspires to someday lead his own experiential education organization with a goal to help others grow, and to teach the practice at a university level.
In his spare time, Tom is a musician, hiker, and a novice photographer who enjoys capturing others in their element. He enjoys epic hikes and relaxing with his dog, Gauge.
