Yajaira Gonzalez
Project Manager, Grants, Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Inc.

Yajaira Gonzalez has cross-cultural experience in global settings with multiple organizations that organize for change in world, national and local politics. Yajaira Gonzalez has dedicated her career to public service through organizing, public advocacy, and direct service. During her tenure, she led statewide efforts to ensure two legislative bills in Nebraska became law to allow drivers licenses and professional licenses for DACA youth and other immigrants in Nebraska through her work at the Heartland Workers Center.

In addition, Yajaira Gonzalez has also worked in direct service with low-income families in Omaha to eliminate barriers to children’s education as part of a coalition between Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska, Learning Communities of Douglas and Sarpy Counties and Omaha Public Schools. Yajaira Gonzalez continues her work now at Lutheran Family Services of Nebraska as Project Manager of Grants while actively pursuing a Master of Public Administration at the University of Nebraska in Omaha.

Yajaira Gonzalez hopes to create dialogue opportunities to engage and challenge current public officials so underrepresented communities can have a seat at the decision-making table and understand their power. In the future, Yajaira Gonzalez hopes to do this through public office as a future United States Senator.
