Tonnetta is a six-year Army National Guard Service Member and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) Veteran. Throughout her tenure with the Army National Guard, Tonnetta has spent her years serving abroad as a Construction Engineer Specialist in Afghanistan and serving as the Executive Assistant to the Brigade Colonel in Human Resources. Before joining the Army National Guard, Tonnetta attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (UWW), where she attained her Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance and is currently pursuing her MBA in Finance and Project Management. Tonnetta says, “If you want to be Great, you have to do Great things,” and that is why she chose to serve her country. She believed her purpose extended beyond Wisconsin and she knew that if she allowed herself to experience opportunities, her life would be one worth living.
While at UWW, Tonnetta served on Whitewater Student Government as the Student Affairs Director, Connection Student Council, the Chancellors Committee for Inclusive Excellence, and a number of other esteemed organizations. Yet, Tonnetta’s leadership did not stop there. She took a summer to explore life Washington, D.C. working in the office of Congresswoman Gwen Moore as a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Intern.
With Tonnetta wrapping up her military service, she’d like to utilize her skill set in the market working in Business Development while expanding her knowledge in the political advocacy arena. She currently holds the Fund Development Chair position with Milwaukee Urban League Young Professionals and is a current fellow in the WI Women’s Network 2019 Policy Institute.
Tonnetta lives her life being a public and private servant, meaning the work that she does is not always seen, but it is always felt. Working with United Way of Greater Milwaukee and Waukesha County has truly opened her eyes to the lives of thousands of others, right here near her hometown of Milwaukee, WI. Tonnetta has made it her life’s mission to touch as many lives as she can and it is only the beginning.
