Tina Handren was born in Rhode Island but was raised in Berlin, New Hampshire. She returned to RI in 2002 after high school to attend Salve Regina University, where she graduated with a degree in English Literature, and a minor in Philosophy. A writer and editor, she worked at the school's Writing Center, where she tutored both undergraduate and graduate students.
Tina worked in banking for a brief time after college, until she found her niche upon accepting a position in a Human Resources Department. Since then, she has amassed a wealth of knowledge in payroll, benefits, compensation, talent acquisition, employment law, performance management, employee recognition, leadership development, and conflict mediation. She feels most fulfilled when connecting team members to resources, benefits, and programs available to them.
She is an outspoken advocate for mental health services and access to care, and she volunteers with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Tina is the Senior Human Resources Business Partner for the RI Region at Oak Street Health, an organization of healthcare centers providing primary care medicine for adults on Medicare. She holds a Senior Certified Professional certification (SHRM-SCP) through the Society for Human Resource Management, and she is a member of both the national and RI chapters of SHRM. She recently pledged her commitment to give back to the HR community by accepting a role on the RI SHRM Board of Directors, where she will serve as the Certification Director.
Tina lives in Warwick with her husband, Scott, and their two daughters, Molly, Lucy and their dog, Arya. She enjoys reading, writing, drawing, painting, backpacking, and playing and collecting board games.
