Theo Ossei-Anto serves as Director, Impact in Schools for Teach for America Los Angeles. In this role, he oversees the development of 92 first and second year corps members teaching in South LA. Though his work is mostly with teachers, it is the impact that his work has on kids and communities that drives Theo the most. Theo believes that each teacher represents a cohort of students, who each represent families and communities. Therefore it is our responsibility to support strong teachers and build effective schools, so that we can imbue our students with the knowledge, skills, and opportunities they need to uplift entire communities.
Theo has been a passionate educator for 11 years, and has served in numerous capacities including 2009 Teach for America Memphis corps member at Promise Academy, founding teacher, Dean, and Assistant Principal at KIPP Memphis Academy Middle, and Dean at KIPP Ignite Academy in South LA. His ultimate goal is to found and lead a school for homeless children in Los Angeles that makes a transformational impact on the cycle of poverty and educational equity throughout our community.
There are only three things that rival Theo's passion for educational equity. The first is his sports fanaticism. Theo is an avid sports fan, and though he lives in Los Angeles now, he is still loyal to his hometown teams, particularly the Buffalo Bills, Buffalo Sabres, and the The second is his passion for exercise, especially lifting weights, rock climbing, and OrangeTheory. Third and most important though, is Theo's love for his family. In fact, Theo's favorite thing in the whole world is cozying on the couch, sharing a great meal, and watching a movie with his family. Theo is a very proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received a B.A. in Political Science with minors in Peace Studies and Africana Studies.He received a Master in Education from Christian Brothers University.
