Sarenka Smith
Brown Management Consulting / Tarsus Medical Group, Director of Content Strategies

An insatiable appetite for reading from a very young age led Sarenka to appreciate the art of storytelling and writing. Born and bred in Baltimore, Maryland, Sarenka attended Johns Hopkins University on a full merit scholarship, where she majored in the highly regarded Writing Seminars program. Although she initially focused on writing fiction, Sarenka ultimately turned her attention to non-fiction, journalistic writing, and editing. While a student, Sarenka wrote articles for the Baltimore City Paper, reviewing restaurants and cultural events. She also spent three months writing for The Jerusalem Post in Tel Aviv, Israel. Additionally, during her college years, Sarenka tutored Baltimore City middle school students, and served as the Chief of Public Outreach and Marketing for The Johns Hopkins New Political Society.

Having always enjoyed performing, Sarenka minored in Theater Arts at Johns Hopkins, and had leading roles in plays under the direction and tutelage of the actor John Astin. During a summer, she honed her comedic skills while taking classes at the famed Upright Citizens Brigade: an improvisational and sketch comedy group in New York City.

After graduating from Hopkins with general and departmental honors, Sarenka combined her passion for writing and her interest in politics by moving to Washington, D.C. and working as a legislative correspondent for Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland. Today, she uses her writing skills as the Director of Content Strategies for Tarsus Medical Division, an international company that includes a portfolio of five healthcare companies: all of which provide online educational courses and live global conferences & trade shows. Sarenka oversees and manages all content-related projects, and develops website copy & SEO, writes blogs, crafts emails, drafts press releases, and brainstorms articles. She likewise spearheads creative marketing materials that collectively focus on premier medical education in all aspects of health.

Away from her “day job,” Sarenka spends much time as a motivational speaker for individuals in various types of recovery including substance abuse, addiction, and other negatively impactful habits. In addition to politics, Sarenka enjoys underground hip hop, sushi, Southern Gothic literature, and cats.
