Safe & Sound, Individual Giving Officer

Ryan Hazelton grew up in San Diego, arriving in San Francisco in 2007 in pursuit of a career in online advertising technologies. After a few years in this sector (and company acquisitions), Ryan decided to leave tech and pivot to a career in nonprofit having previously worked in a welfare-to-work office out of college. A new passion for education, safe childhoods, and building healthy families arose from a position fundraising for a nonprofit preschool in the Mission District of San Francisco. This preschool focused on providing low-income and homeless families with early childhood education and family support services, teaching Ryan the value of investing in these services to break cycles of poverty. He currently works in fundraising as the major gifts and individual giving officer at Safe & Sound, a nonprofit organization working to end child abuse and strengthen families in San Francisco. Planning and attending fundraising events is a specialty and passion.

Ryan holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of California, San Diego. He is the Development and Gala Chair on the board of directors at Tandem, Partners in Early Learning, to increase early literacy skills and family engagement programming in the Bay Area. Ryan is also President of the Board of Education at the Thomas Edison Charter Academy, a nonprofit public charter school in the Mission Dolores neighborhood of San Francisco. When not working, he enjoys traveling, theater, local museums, hiking, and catching up on a handful of television series.
