Ruby Fuentes is a native of San Juan, Texas, a graduate of Psychology and Mexican American Studies from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a Re/Generator with Call to Action, a national progressive religious organization, and a journalist for the National Catholic Reporter.
Raised in the Texas/Mexico border, she has witnessed socioeconomic inequality, political division in lieu of the reconstruction of the border wall and increased militarization, but also the unity of the community serving those in need, such as the influx of Central Americans seeking refuge. These social injustices and her faith, inspired Ruby to become the Immigration Organizer at La Union del Pueblo Entero, a non-profit organization co-founded by César Chávez and Dolores Huerta, where she collaborates with other humanitarian organizations, local activists, lawyers, ministries, doctors, and LUPE members to provide rapid aid to immigrants seeking asylum in Matamoros and the Rio Grande Valley, and aims to change policy to achieve immigration reform.
Ruby's previous work experience includes working for the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville as a campus minister, videographer, photographer, writer, and social media content creator. She is also currently serving as a volunteer catechist to teens at her local parish.
Ruby is committed to being a bridge to unify her community through media documentation and public service.
