New York Criminal Justice Reform Senior Associate, FWD.us

Rodney Holcombe is a lawyer and journalist by training and is committed to creating a more just and compassionate world for all people, particularly those subject to the criminal legal system. Originally from Houston, Rodney is a graduate of Howard University and the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is a member of the California State Bar.

Rodney is a Senior Associate at FWD.us where he engages in state-level criminal justice policy in New York. In his role, Rodney advances legislation to decarcerate jails and prisons across New York. He develops communications strategies, engages in policy analysis and research, and manages relationships with coalition partners.

Prior to FWD.us, Rodney was a staff attorney at Drug Policy Alliance in Oakland, CA. There he drafted legislation, model policies, and amicus briefs, engaged in policy advocacy, and testified before various legislative bodies in support of drug law reform. He regularly presented at local, national, and international conferences on repairing the harms of the failed drug war and creating opportunities for low-income Black and Latinx people to enter the burgeoning cannabis industry. He also hosted several legal clinics across California to provide record change relief to people with cannabis convictions before working with a coalition to draft and pass legislation that automated this process.

In his free time, Rodney enjoys competing in long distance runs, exploring new cities, and spending time outdoors.
