Octavia Chambers currently serves as the Director of Equity & Inclusion for the Portland Trail Blazers. She is the first person to hold this position at the Trail Blazers and one of few that hold a similar position in the National Basketball Association. In this role, she is responsible for developing and driving a cross-departmental equity and inclusion program.
Before joining the Portland Trail Blazers in 2017, Octavia worked for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as a Public Health Advisor in Anchorage, Alaska and Hillsboro, Oregon. In this role, she focused on advancing health equity, reducing disparities, and the implementation of trauma-informed approaches to service. During this time, she also had the opportunity to serve as Miss Black Oregon USA 2016 promoting her platform "Protecting Hope," an intervention against bullying and social isolation. She was awarded the Community Service Award at the national competition for her work engaging youth in the community.
Chambers was recently named a 2019 Sports Business Journal New Voice under 30 and serves as the Program Director for the Miss Juneteenth Oregon Program that serves over 60 African American girls ages 6-19 years old.
Octavia received her B.S. in Psychology from Howard University and MPH through the University of Nebraska Medical Center. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering, writing, and spending time with family.
