Megan McAfee grew up in Des Moines, Iowa and attended Roosevelt High School. Upon graduation from the University of Missouri in 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and minors in Psychology and Multicultural Studies, Megan spent three years in South Korea working as an ESL teacher for elementary and middle school students. This life changing experience made her able to connect with a multitude of different people and cultures along with traveling to several different countries. Teaching in South Korea led to other fulfilling job experiences working with children: living and working at Camp Timberline in Hawaii as a program facilitator for team building challenges with children and adults and working for Youth Enrichment League as an after school Lego Instructor to elementary students in the Des Moines metro while promoting teamwork and core values.
Returning back to Des Moines, Megan reconnected with old friends and began to focus on voter access and voter registration in local and national elections. This led to a wealth of opportunities including extensive volunteering for Deidre DeJear's Secretary of State of Iowa campaign in 2018, serving on the NAACP Des Moines Political Action Committee, and a seat on the Board of Directors for Urban Dreams with a focus on community connectivity.
In her work life, Megan works for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage as a Loan Documentation Specialist for the Closing Department in Home Lending Asset Management. Wells Fargo has assisted Megan in nurturing her passion for volunteering and getting involved in the community. Megan has volunteered over 300 hours with numerous nonprofits in Des Moines along with holding a position on the Advisory Council for Wells Fargo's Central Iowa Volunteer Chapter. This group helps promote volunteerism and community within work and beyond. In her free time Megan enjoys traveling, crafting, and exploring the city with her dog Marge.
