Maya Underwood
Palm Beach County School District, Teacher

Maya was born in New York City and raised in Boynton Beach, Florida. In her youth she began channeling her many talents through her church, Boynton Beach Track Club, the Young Singers of The Palm Beaches, and West Palm Beach and Miami Broward Carnival. These organizations have allowed her the opportunities to complete and place in AAU Junior Olympics, sing in the 250th Mozart Music Festival Tour in Europe, and to serve as Miss Miami Broward Carnival USA 2017 and 2018.

Maya graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor of Education in Exercise Physiology with focuses in Biology, Chemistry, and Sports Medicine. She currently works as a Science Teacher for the School District of Palm Beach County and is a Private Fitness/Life Coach. Much of her time is dedicated in educating the community on the importance of daily health and metabolic disease prevention. She is also currently a volunteer with the Miss Miami Broward Carnival Committee as a coach and creative director.

Maya remains active in the community by volunteering at local charitable 5ks and political affairs dedicated to children of urban areas. Her biggest passion is philanthropy and she hopes to begin a national scholarship program dedicated to help high school seniors and juniors with financial and emotional literacy for college/ post-graduate life.  She believes that each student should be provided equal opportunity to higher education and that title I schools are frequently left behind. Maya is determined to be the changing factor for these students.
