Marisa Szeps is the Political Director for the Committee of Interns and Residents / SEIU Healthcare (CIR/SEIU). CIR is a local union under the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) representing 16,000 resident physicians across seven different states. Marisa oversees candidate endorsements, legislative priorities, and political campaign fieldwork across the union.
Prior to this role, Marisa served as a Chief Negotiator, bargaining multiple contracts with the Los Angeles County Healthcare Agency, which is the second largest public healthcare system in the nation. While serving as Chief Negotiator, Marisa was also the Campaign Coordinator in charge of all communications, partnerships,political work and field organizing, for thirteen organizers and 55,000 healthcare workers.
Marisa began her career as a union organizer representing registered nurses, public health nurses and advanced practice nurses. She conducted grievance hearings up to arbitration and oversaw practice issues with the Board of Registered Nurses and the Nurse Practice Act. Marisa also oversaw R.N legislation and other legislative healthcare priorities.
Marisa graduated with a Masters in Public Affairs from the Goldman School of Public Policy from the University of California Berkeley and completed her undergraduate degree in Sociology and Women's Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles.
