Malkia Hutchinson
Harris County Precinct One, Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Community Engagement Coordinator

Malkia Hutchinson grew up in Arlington, TX and has lived in Houston for six years. She currently works as a Community Engagement Coordinator for Commissioner Rodney Ellis at Harris County Precinct One. Malkia has grown increasingly committed to reproductive health, rights, and justice work. She has volunteered as a driver with the Clinic Access Support Network, a Houston based organization helping to remove transportation barriers to those in the greater Houston area obtaining abortions.  Malkia is currently serving in her fourth year as a Board Member for Fund Texas Choice, a statewide practical support fund that covers transportation and lodging costs for Texans traveling for abortion care.

Malkia completed her Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Houston in December 2016. Her Capstone paper was a program evaluation comparing outcomes of the federally funded Medicaid Women’s Health Program Texas participated in from 2007-2012 and the Texas Women’s Health Program implemented in 2013. Her undergraduate degree is in Sociology with a concentration in the Study of Inequality from Cornell University. Malkia served as a Peace Corps volunteer for two years in rural Swaziland focusing on community health education.

Malkia is the proud mom to a seven-year-old daughter and 11-year-old Chihuahua mix.
