Luis Guerrero is passionate about increasing civic engagement among the Latinx community. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a double major in Peace, War, and Defense and Global Studies. Due to his active involvement on campus, he was inducted into the Order of the Golden Fleece - the oldest and most prestigious honorary society at UNC. After graduation, Luis moved to Austin, Texas where he joined AmeriCorps as a bilingual literacy tutor at Harris Elementary. As part of his 1,700 hours of service, he volunteered as an ESL tutor at Foundation Communities, primarily with members of the Latinx community.
Following the 2016 elections, Luis pursued his interest in politics and moved to Washington D.C., where he worked for U.S. Representative Lloyd Doggett on Capitol Hill. Recently, Luis returned to Austin to serve in the congressman's district office as Operations Director. In this role, Luis engages in community outreach, assists constituents, and speaks at events, including those related to voter registration and the upcoming census.
Outside of work, Luis explores Austin by cycling and running along the Lady Bird Lake trail. He enjoys playing tennis with friends, delving into Austin's food scene, and is an avid moviegoer.
