Lizzy Thomas is the Middle TN Community Organizer for Planned Parenthood of Tennessee and North Mississippi. She is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and an alumna of Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Following her graduation, Lizzy worked at a refugee resettlement agency, teaching English, managing the organization's speakers bureau, and finding housing for newly-arrived families housing. After she pursued a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Tennessee with a focus on Organizational Leadership. During her time at UT, Lizzy worked as a graduate research assistant, examining service gaps in health care experienced by Latino immigrant communities and interned at the Tennessee Commission on Children and Youth (TCCY), training professionals across the state on early childhood development and trauma.
After graduating with her MSSW, Lizzy began working at Planned Parenthood. Since she has started, Lizzy has pioneered innovative and inclusive programming, organizing all the direct actions, legislative and electoral campaigns and training in Middle Tennessee to fight back against attacks on reproductive rights on both the national and state level.
She is the 2019 Planned Parenthood Global Youth Ambassador, a fellowship that seeks to connect the local fight for reproductive rights to the global struggle. In addition to traveling to Uganda and Kenya to learn about sexual and reproductive rights in a global context, the fellowship included the opportunity to develop local programming and she created the Community Ambassador for Planned Parenthood program.
When she is not working, Lizzy enjoys traveling, thrifting, and playing with her kitten, Dolly
