As an immigrant from Colombia and first-generation college student, Laura Hernández knew the importance of getting involved in her community and creating opportunities for others. As an undergrad at FIU, she founded the Her Campus chapter on campus, developed Title IX resource flyers for the University, co-launched the first feminist summit, and lobbied FIU's student government to provide funding to send a coalition of students to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders. At a national level, Laura served on the national student advisory council for the American Association for University Women and was a fellow for Young People For and was a youth delegate to the U.N.'s 58th Commission on the Status of Women and previously served on the Alumni Council for Young People For.
Previous to her current position, Laura worked as an electoral organizer in Miami for Planned Parenthood's Action Fund, where she helped to grow state membership and recruited volunteers to volunteer for the Hillary for America 2016 campaign. She was also the previous Miami community organizer for Planned Parenthood where she combined her passions for feminist activism and community organizing to help progress and protect access to reproductive healthcare for all and empower the community she grew up in.
Laura is now the Legislative Affairs Manager for the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates where she works to advance the policy interests of Planned Parenthood in our state and serves as the "Planned Parenthood voice" at the State Capitol in Tallahassee.
Laura enjoys creating new vegan recipes, tweeting away, and reading all the feminist theory books and articles that she can get her hands on.
