Katie Smith was born and raised in Lakeland, Florida and attended Florida Southern College (FSC) as a George Jenkins Scholar, a scholarship program designed for those with financial need and high academic performance. At the age of 20, she received her bachelor's degree in Economics graduating summa cum laude. While at FSC, Katie participated in various clubs and organizations, as well as working a variety of internships with nonprofits and local businesses. There, Katie found her voice becoming passionate about her community, and issues that affect women both socially and economically.
Katie currently works for Lockheed Martin. Her duties include providing customer service support for the accounts payable department in addition to working with data analytics through the creation of various visualizations tools to help track and refine the department's performance.
When she is not working, Katie is politically active in the Democratic Party at the local and state levels. She was a campaign volunteer in 2018 for the Bob Doyel Campaign, as well as working with the Polk Democratic Party in their Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts. She was recently elected President of the Democratic Women's Club of Lakeland, a newer club that was chartered in April of 2017 and has a membership of approximately 150 members. Additionally, Katie is an active member in good standing in the Lakeland Kiwanis Club. Volunteering her time to help her community and advocate for progressive causes, Katie believes she will help bring positive change to her community and state.
