Kat Kirby is a native of Wilson, North Carolina and a graduate of North Carolina State University. Kat holds a Bachelors of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Women's and Gender Studies and a minor in Psychology. She is passionate about an array of social justice issues including interpersonal violence prevention and reproductive rights and health.
During her time at NC State she served as the president of The Movement Interpersonal Violence Peer Educators and Planned Parenthood Generation Action and was also as an active member of NC State Student Government and Kappa Alpha Theta. Kat also served as a volunteer for InterAct of Wake County, the NC State Women's Center, and the North Carolina Coalition Against Sexual Assault, where she provided direct support to survivors, interpersonal violence prevention education and co-coordinated a statewide conference for student anti-violence advocates.
Upon graduation she accepted a position as a field organizer for Planned Parenthood South Atlantic in Wilmington, NC, where she oversees two patient advocacy programs, engages college students and mobilizes volunteers around reproductive health policy issues and initiatives. She continues to volunteer for her local interpersonal violence prevention organization, Coastal Horizons. In the future, Kat plans to obtain an advanced degree to further her impact in North Carolina.
