Karina Alvarez immigrated to the United States when she was four years old. She was raised in Laredo, Texas, where she attended public school and graduated with a Bachelor degree in Communication Disorders from Texas A&M International University in December of 2012. After the initiation of the DACA program, Karina applied for her first job as an Assistant Speech Language Pathologist.
She is now currently working as a Bilingual Elementary Educator in San Antonio, Texas with Edgewood ISD, while attending graduate school for School Leadership at Trinity University. She is also an immigrant rights community organizer for both Laredo, and San Antonio, Texas. She is cofounder and director of the Laredo Immigrant Alliance, an organization that advocates for immigrant rights by engaging, educating, and organizing the community of Laredo, TX.
