Julie James is the Examination Review Board Audit Manager at the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA). In this role, she is entrusted with reviewing and evaluating the appropriateness of policies and procedures utilized in the preparation, grading, and administration of the Uniform CPA Examination. She works closely with NASBA colleagues, the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), and Prometric to safeguard the integrity of the CPA examination process.
Julie has over 14 years of professional experience, including general accounting, internal audit, accounting systems, budgeting and forecasting, and financial reporting. Prior to joining NASBA in 2019, Julie was a consultant within the technology and management consulting practice at RSM, a middle market-focused audit, tax, and consulting firm. While at RSM, Julie assisted clients with BlackLine software implementations, process improvements, procedure design, and training. Before RSM, Julie was Financial Reporting Manager and BlackLine System Administrator at First Data Corporation (now Fiserv) in Atlanta, GA.
As a resident of Nashville, TN, Julie has worked as an adjunct accounting professor at Tennessee State University. She has also had the opportunity to serve as a leader within the College Ministry and Finance Team at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Whites Creek, Tennessee.Julie has served on various charitable boards and committees and is active with several professional and public service organizations. She was recently appointed to the Accounting Career Education committee with the Tennessee Society of CPAs (TSCPA), a committee focused on recruitment activities to attract students to the accounting profession. Julie also serves as Treasurer and Professional Member Services Committee Chair with the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Nashville Chapter. She is an active member of the AICPA, ISACA, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Junior League of Nashville, Jackson State University National Alumni Association (JSUNAA), and United Way of Greater Atlanta VIP Alumni.
A native of Mississippi, Julie earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting and Master of Professional Accountancy from Jackson State University. Julie is a licensed certified public accountant and holds licenses in Tennessee and Georgia.
