Julia Silbergeld is the Chief of People and Organizational Development for MoveOn, one of the nation's largest progressive political and advocacy organizations, focused on building a world where everyone can thrive by electing inspiring progressive leaders and holding corporations and politicians accountable through grassroots advocacy. At MoveOn, Julia has built the people and organizational development team and oversees diversity, equity, and inclusion programming, hiring and recruitment, staff and manager training, and overall staff experience. In 2018, her team drove doubling MoveOn's staff size, to help fuel the "blue wave" and elect progressives into office.
Julia has had a career focused on furthering progressive and democratic values. She previously served in senior leadership roles at the San Francisco Chronicle, Greenpeace, and a sustainable food startup, Farmigo. In 2015, Julia received her MBA from Berkeley-Haas, where she focused on social entrepreneurship and sustainable food. Julia originally hails from LA, studied film as an undergraduate at Wesleyan University, and spent a semester abroad in Kenya focused on public health with the School for International Training. During her junior year, she volunteered on her first political campaign — Howard Dean's presidential bid — and fell in love with organizing and mission-driven work. Following graduation, she spent several months working at the Vermont headquarters of his organization, Democracy for America in before joining Greenpeace.
In her spare time, Julia loves to hike and backpack in the outdoors, cook adventurous meals with friends, read novels, and travel to unique and beautiful places.
