Juan Livas was born and raised in Laredo, TX. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Texas A&M International University in May 2008. He then went on to get a Master of Science in Sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio. For close to ten years, Juan Livas has been the Community Partnership Officer with the United ISD After School Adventures Program, and he oversees program operations, incorporates learning activities, such as STEM, and invites guest speakers from the community to present to elementary students. Juan also taught for a few years as an adjunct instructor at Laredo Community College and Texas A&M International University with the goal of helping educate future generations. Juan spends his off time helping various non-profits in various roles. He is currently the Vice President of the environmental organization Rio Grande International Study Center (RGISC) in which he has been involved for close to ten years. He is also the Treasurer for Laredo Immigrant Alliance which fights for immigrant rights via education, engagement, and organizing the community. Other nonprofits in which he has helped include Cesar Chavez Memorial Alliance of South Texas, Brown Berets, Laredo Alzheimer's Association, and Crimestoppers. Moreover, Juan often holds donation drives to aid local homeless shelters and community centers, in addition to participating in the annual homeless count survey.
