Briefing Coordinator to the Attorney General, California Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General

Jonathan Gayton currently serves as the Briefing Coordinator to the Attorney General at the California Department of Justice. In this position, he is responsible for assisting the Attorney General with carrying out the initiatives of the California Department of Justice in service to the people of California. He also serves as a member of the California Department of Justice's Hispanic Employees Advisory Committee, which makes recommendations to the Attorney General regarding issues that affect equal employment opportunities for department employees.

Prior to joining the Office of the Attorney General, Jonathan has held various positions in state and local government, financial services, and vehicle marketing. Most recently, he was a Consultant in the Office of Child Abuse Prevention with the California Department of Social Services, where he guided counties towards achieving the best possible outcomes and policies for children and families in California. He accomplished this through the promotion of best practices and innovative approaches in order to address child abuse, intervention, and treatment.

Before that, he served as a Police Officer with the Sacramento Police Department where he committed to public safety and community service. In this role, he developed a stronger passion for the law and for making positive impacts on the justice system. Previously, he worked as a Banker where he assisted clients with financial wellness and stability. He also worked in a competitive sales marketing environment involving automobile transactions and negotiations.

Jonathan was born in Sacramento, California, grew up in Galt, and is the first in his family to graduate from a university. As the son of a laborer and public servant, he has learned first-hand the value of education and public service. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Davis. He is also a Juris Doctorate Candidate at Lincoln Law School of Sacramento and is expected to graduate in 2021. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, friends, and playing the occasional round of golf.
