Johannah Thompkins is a native Houstonian. She received her degree in Political Science from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, and went on to receive her Masters of Public Administration from the Texas A&M University Bush School of Government and Public Service. She currently works for Harris County Commissioner Rodney Ellis serving as a Community Engagement Coordinator. In her role, Johannah focuses on connecting Precinct One constituents to vital information and resources. She works to bring the community and stakeholders together to support the Commissioner and Precinct mission of creating equity and empowering the community. Johannah leads Commissioner Ellis’ passion project, the Texas Legislative Internship Program (TLIP), which provides students across the country an opportunity to learn and provide service to others.
In her previous role at OneGoal, she successfully created and implemented office operations and re-launched a student-led Ambassador Program. Johannah is passionate about education, mentoring young people, and providing the tools and knowledge to empower communities to speak for themselves. In her spare time, she mentors at USDream Academy, an organization working to empower children at risk of incarceration, through academic, social, and value enrichment. She also serves as a lead instructor for the Women’s Political Institute and Girls in Politics Initiative.
