Jo Teut
Centre College, Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion

Jo Teut serves as the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion Programming at Centre College, Danville, Kentucky. In this position, Jo works to increase collaboration and encourage intersectional event planning with various student groups, advocates on behalf of marginalized students, and creates programming to address the needs of the increasingly diverse campus community.

Prior to coming to Centre College, Teut worked as the inaugural Diversity Specialist at the University of Wisconsin Colleges and Extension. In this role, ze developed and facilitated programming on creating a welcoming environment for LGBTQIA+ students, staff, and faculty across the state of Wisconsin. Teut also devised a communication strategic plan for the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion which contained listserv messages, newsletters, social media, and website content. Lastly, Teut also built and implemented a 10-week cultural competency program for faculty and staff statewide.

With colleagues from UW, Teut co-edited an issue of New Directions in Community Colleges on LGBTQ+ Issues (2019). Ze has also published and presented on asexuality and transgender inclusion. Teut’s academic, activist, and advocacy interests are rural, LGBTQ+ studies; asexuality, queer, and transgender studies; and queer representations in American literature.

Teut earned a M.A. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ze also has a B.A. in English and Spanish from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, zir hometown. Jo lives in Lexington, Kentucky with zir wife and four cats.
