Javier Saldaña, Jr. is the current Interim Director for the Office of Military and Veteran Service at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). He has been with the university in various capacities, since 2012 and is a UNO alumnus. Saldaña is a nationally recognized leader in student veteran education, by assisting UNO achieve "Top-ten Military-Friendly Universities" by Military Times since 2012 and "Top-five Chapter Advisors" (1,500 chapters internationally) by Student Veterans of America in 2018.
Saldaña also serves as a Military Police Sergeant with the Nebraska Army National Guard. Saldaña is a 2011 Veteran of the War in Afghanistan where he conducted interment and resettlement operations. In Afghanistan, he was responsible for the care, custody, and control of high-value members of the Taliban. In 2015, he deployed as a Protective Services Detail (PSD) Agent. As PSD, he was responsible for protecting senior Department of Defense officials and Department of State diplomats in the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR).
In the Omaha community, he serves on the board of directors of the Metro Young Latino Professionals Association (MYLPA), where their mission is to amplify the power of Latinos through professional and civic engagement. He also is a member of the American Legion Post 1, Student Veterans of America, and volunteers with the Omaha Police Department.
