A South Florida native, Erika Varnado currently serves as the Youth Market Director for the American Heart Association. She is responsible for implementing the American Heart Association’s Kids Heart Challenge events as the liaison with school-based coordinators, (typically PE teachers/school principals/superintendents) to raise funds through educational fundraising in Broward County. Erika is proud graduate of the University of Central Florida where she obtained a Bachelors of Interpersonal and Organizational Communications as well as a Masters in Nonprofit Management.
Since the age of 7, Erika found herself being involved in community service. As an adult she continues to be a very active community member. She is heavily involved with the Urban League of Broward County Young Professionals Network, where she has served as the Community Service Co-Chair, Vice President of Programs and currently Programs Chair. Due to her dedication to her community and YPN chapter, Erika was recognized by the National Urban League Young Professionals Network as a “Distinguished Young Professional”. Ms. Varnado has also served on the planning committee for the L.E.A.D Nation’s 5th and 6th Annual South Florida Youth Summit, a 3- day event that attracts youth throughout Miami Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Through government programming, Ms. Varnado also tutors foster children ranging from grades K-8.
Erika is focused on being a child advocate and believes that by investing in our children, we can create a brighter tomorrow. Her personal philosophy is “in a world full of hate and greed, altruism still exists”.
Fun fact: Erika loves sunflowers and she loves to sing at the drop of a dime.
