Emily Schulman is currently a Public Sector Consultant at North Highland, where she enables state and local government agencies to better fulfill their missions by increasing their efficiency and effectiveness. Emily’s interests lie in the power of local government to most directly stem the tide of systemic poverty. As a consultant, Emily is expanding her skills in project management, process improvement and data analysis.

In 2016, Emily moved to Philadelphia to pursue a dual Masters of Public Administration and Masters of Science in Education Policy from the University of Philadelphia. During her graduate studies, Emily interned in the Superintendent's Office of the Philadelphia School District and in the Managing Directors Office of the City of Philadelphia, focusing specifically on the Mayor’s workforce development initiative. Both opportunities offered insights into the possibilities of highly functioning government entities. Also, while at Penn, Emily worked as a fellow with ImpactEd, conducting impact evaluation for local Philadelphia organizations, furthering her quantitative and qualitative evaluation skills.

Emily’s professional background is in education, having worked for three years at the Flamboyan Foundation, an education foundation seeking to improve educational outcomes for D.C.’s students through effective family engagement. This research-based approach leverages the power of the parent-teacher relationship to realize real academic gains for students. Emily is most proud of her work instituting a train-the-trainer model, equipping practitioners to train other teachers on family engagement strategies, expanding the foundation’s sustainability and impact. Emily continues to abide by the foundational motto of effective family engagement: “no one cares what you know, until they know that you care.”

Emily graduated from the College of William and Mary in 2012 with a B.A. in Public Policy, and is a proud AmeriCorps alumnus, having served a year with DC SCORES, the largest after school service provider in Washington, D.C.
