Position
Prodeo Academy, Director of Talent and Student Recruitment

Edwin Cruz is the Director of Talent and Student Recruitment at Prodeo Academy, a network of charter schools closing the achievement gap in the Twin Cities. In this role, Edwin leads efforts to recruit and hire staff members to serve students at Prodeo’s network of three schools. He also manages Prodeo’s marketing strategies to reach and serve more families. Prior to this role, Edwin managed Teach For America’s recruitment campaigns at the University of Chicago and Notre Dame, leading each campus to be among the nation’s Top Contributors of corps members.

A first-generation college graduate from Phillips, Minneapolis, Edwin has seen how inequitable educational opportunities can affect life outcomes, and has spent his career ensuring students of color and low-income learners have access to great schools and excellent teachers. Before joining TFA’s recruitment team, Edwin served as a middle-school English teacher in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he worked on developing intrinsically motivated readers and critical thinkers capable of beating the odds. His time in the classroom taught him the unique assets of the East Vegas community, and it also exposed him to the institutional barriers that limit access to opportunity in low-income communities.

Edwin has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities and a M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas. After being away from home for 5 years, Edwin returned to the Twin Cities in April. Outside of work, he volunteers his time as a Founding Member of the Teach For America – Twin Cities Alumni Board. Edwin lives in St. Paul with his wife and 11-month old son, and enjoys playing futsal, visiting bookstores, and rooting for Minnesota sports teams.
