Born in Brazil and raised in the U.S. Cairo Mendes knows firsthand the experience of growing up as an immigrant in this country. This experience launched him into organizing where for over seven years he supported undocumented youth and their families through various roles, most recently as Lead Organizer, of the Student Immigrant Movement (SIM). As of January of this year, Cairo has continued supporting community as the Grassroots Strategy Program Associate at The Boston Foundation. Aside from his work, Cairo serves on the board of BAGLY, a LGTBQ youth-led organization, and is an alum of Yp4 (Young People For) a program of PFAW (People for American Way Foundation). He is a graduate of UMASS Boston, having received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Political Science.
