Brax Tinkler has been the Operations and Development Coordinator at Power U Center for Social Change (Power U), a racial justice organization in Miami, FL since January of 2017. Prior to this role, Brax worked at several non-profits for 10 years in Florida, North Carolina and Texas. These positions were both in direct service and in administration and the organizations’ work was centered on Homelessness, Economic Insecurity, Affordable Housing, Issues of Incarceration, Education, Youth Empowerment, Immigration, Healthcare and LGBT Rights. To Brax, these experiences emphasized the big picture; the institutions that govern our lives need to change. Brax was born and raised in Miami and has a BA in Sociology/Anthropology, with a Minor in Political Science, from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and a Master’s of Science in Social Work, with a concentration in Community Administrative Leadership, from the University of Texas at Austin. Driven by a Human Rights Framework and a strong passion for Social Justice, Brax is committed to fighting for economic, racial and gender liberation and supports the leadership of individuals directly impacted by oppression. Deeply rooted in Brax is that all individuals no matter race, gender or economic situation have the right to live a life of self-determination.
