Anna?Salem (she/her)?is an advocate, trainer, and organizer living in Oakland, California. She most recently worked as a Program Manager for the Youth Leadership Institute (YLI). At YLI, Anna worked with youth on building healthier and more equitable communities by developing and partnering with young people on local advocacy campaigns. Prior to YLI, Anna served as an Organizer and Policy Advocate at the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California (ACLU-NC). At the ACLU-NC, Anna worked to fight against the school-to-prison pipeline at the local and state level. She focused on policing in schools, school discipline, and creating safe and inclusive schools for queer and transgender youth. With an emphasis on education equity and public health, much of her work has focused on engaging youth and their allies in creating systemic change in their schools and communities. Anna has also served as a trainer and consultant to foundations, school administrators, public health officials, religious leaders, and community-based organizations. She is a founding member of Bend the Arc Bay Area's Racial Justice Team. Her work on the Racial Justice Team focuses primarily on building the capacity of white Jews to address racism within the Jewish community. Anna graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, CA, where she served as Student Body President and earned her bachelor's degrees in Politics and Humanities. Anna is originally from Sacramento, CA, but moved to Oakland almost ten years ago. She lives with her partner and their 70lb lapdog and loves to visit with her nephew and nieces.
