Andrew Chang is a long-time labor and community organizer with over a decade of professional experience—in campaign and program coordination, organizational development and coalition-building—in union, nonprofit and university settings. He currently serves as a Field Representative with the California Faculty Association (CFA), which represents 30,000 professors, librarians, counselors and coaches in public higher education. He staffs CFA’s Asian Pacific Islander and Desi Americans Caucus and is a Vice President of the Los Angeles (LA) Chapter of the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance (APALA). Andrew also has a professional and educational background in research, popular education, and urban and social policy—particularly around issues of healthcare and long-term care, housing, and childcare and early education. He earned a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where he co-founded the Working Group on Race, Inequality, Solidarity and Economics. As an undergraduate at the University of California, Berkeley, Andrew studied English, Ethnic Studies and Peace and Conflict Studies and coordinated UC Berkeley’s Multicultural Community Center upon graduation. Andrew has previously served in diverse roles with the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and other national unions and advocacy organizations, including as a national Senior Organizer, Organizing Director, Researcher and Policy Consultant. He has had the privilege of organizing and representing thousands of workers in diverse industries—from home care and hospital workers to child care providers and fast food workers—and has led numerous statewide advocacy and political campaigns, including for several years on the national Fight for $15 movement. Andrew is the son of working-class immigrants from Taiwan. He was born in New York City and grew up in LA County, including for many years in the San Gabriel Valley. He currently lives in Long Beach, CA.
