Akilah is a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Employed by the Internal Revenue Service, Akilah works as a revenue officer promoting voluntary compliance with U.S. tax laws by collecting delinquent taxes and tax returns. Akilah utilizes a variety of advanced investigative techniques and financial expertise to educate the public on their tax responsibilities while providing quality customer service.
In 2004, Akilah graduated from Blanche Ely High School. She continued her education at Florida A&M University. In 2008, Akilah transferred to Florida Atlantic University where she graduated with her B.S. in Business Administration/Management.
Akilah is a long-time member of First Baptist Church Piney Grove, where she served in a leadership role as the young adult coordinator for a number of years. As the coordinator, she dealt with the challenges of allowing individuals to identify their roles while promoting unity. Additionally, she prepared their budget, coordinated outings, and utilized available technology to efficiently communicate with members.
Akilah possesses specific skills that make her a valued member of different organizations, including organizing, analyzing and executing projects. Akilah collaborates periodically on a number of events with Next Weekend Productions. Next Weekend Productions is a special events company that oversees the coordination, development, design and production of many events across South Florida. Their mission is to “edutain” and provide events that bring both awareness and entertainment to our communities. Akilah has served as a mentor with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Miami Dade County since 2012 and is in the process of transferring her mentorship to Broward County. Akilah is passionate about having a positive influence on others. She believes in order for our communities to succeed, it is necessary to overcome the apathy that currently plagues our community. She believes one person can make a difference and it begins with a simple hello.
