Akeem Lloyd
Founder/CEO A Leadership Journey, AkeemSpeaks, LLC

Akeem Lloyd is the grandson of Mary Marsh and Leroy Lloyd. He was raised by his grandparents in Atlantic City, New Jersey. As a first generation college student, he walked onto the Camden campus of Rutgers University as an EOF student. Almost failing out of the summer program, Akeem was challenged by his math teacher to take advantage of his EOF opportunity. It was after that interaction when he realized the opportunity that he had to become the first person in his family to graduate from college, to break the cycle. He went on to finish the summer program with the highest math grade in his cohort.

Life did not get any easier. After a 1.3 gpa, the loss of his grandfather, and on the verge of dropping out, Akeem, once again found himself searching for answers, and once again had to remind himself of the cycle he had the opportunity to break. Akeem persevered, going from a 1.3 gpa to a 3.4 gpa in three years, becoming the first person in his family to graduate with a college degree, breaking the cycle.

Since then, Akeem has gone on to complete his Masters from Temple University, as well as to start his own nonprofit, A Leadership Journey.
