Aja Desmond is an accomplished nonprofit professional with a demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice. She is currently the Program Director at HAVEN and serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for Earthtone OutsideMT. She graduated from Hartford Art School in 2005 with a B.F.A. in Sculpture and from University of Montana in Missoula in 2011 with a M.A. in Intercultural Youth and Family Development. She has been working with youth and families in a variety of roles since 2000.
Her notable work includes work with Partnership for Children in Missoula as an Attachment Counselor, anti-gang work in East Palo Alto, CA with the Department of Justice and local law enforcement, and as Executive Director of Shift Youth Empowerment Programs in Livingston, MT. Her involvement with Earthtone OutsideMT began in February 2019 after attending Rockwood Leadership Institute. Earthtone OutsideMT is an organization that elevates People of Color (POC) in the outdoors. She helps to create safe community to increase POC representation in the outdoors.
Aja is a compassionate, honest, and thoughtful leader. She cares deeply about the work she does and the people with whom she does it. Aja identifies as a white-passing, biracial woman. When she isn't working, Aja spends time with her friends and tries to get outside as much as possible.
