Can you believe that we only have a few weeks left before applications for the 2016 Institute come to a close?
After November 1, we will no longer be accepting applications to the Institute so read below on how to apply or nominate a potential Fellow, today.
Our chapter information sessions are a great way to learn about the NLC institute and meet the members of the local advisory boards, mentors, and faculty. You can find more information on upcoming events below as well.
Not to be missed, our alumni are doing great things effecting positive progressive change nationwide. Be on the look out for their great work and read up on how to participate in NLC4, our action arm with a focus on keeping alumni engaged, informed, and connected.
There is little time left to apply to join the NLC Institute this year. The Institute brings together emerging leaders across professional sectors, training them in the skills needed to run a nonprofit, run for office, or start a business—all the while effecting lasting progressive change.
The NLC Institute will begin January 2016, with each chapter will host a class of 15-20 Fellows. Critical topics covered in the Institute include: messaging and framing, tech and new media, political management, public relations and marketing, fundraising, and leadership and values development.

Alumni Highlights & Features
The last few weeks have been tremendous for our alumni. Most recently, Young Involved Philadelphia (YIP) nominated three NLC alumni and one organization born from an NLC Capstone Project at its #YoungPhillyLeads Awards. In partnership with Forbes and its Under 30 Summit, YIP highlighted the people, projects, and organizations whose ideas and work are remaking Philadelphia. NLC Philadelphia alums Isaiah Thomas, Julie Wertheimer, and Kellan White were highlighted for their work in government; Pattison Leader Group, was highlighted for its efforts to increase civic engagement; and winners included Julie Wertheimer and Pattison Leader Group. It’s an honor to simply be nominated, and congratulations to the winners.
In the intersection of tech innovation and government, the Open Technology Institute of the New America Foundation announced the launch of TechCongress, a project co-founded by NLC DC alum Travis Moore. TechCongress will create a pipeline of technologists into Congressional offices to improve policymaking. You can read the announcement here: https://www.newamerica.org/oti/oti-announces-the-launch-of-techcongress-2/
Last, but certainly not least, NLC DC 2014 Fellow Lorella Praeli was named Huffington Post's 40 Under 40: Latinos in American Politics. Read the story here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/josue-lopez-calderon/40-under-40-latinos-in-am_1_b_8168364.html
Congratulations to these and all NLC alumni!
Last weekend the NLC4 Women’s Policy Innovation Team, chaired by Honorary Chair Claire Silberman, hosted launched the NLC4 Women’s Caucus at their NLC4 Women Leadership Summit. Over 100 progressives interested in being active in advancing women leadership across all sectors braved the weather and convened in Brooklyn, NY for a day of thoughtful discussion and results oriented planning. Be on the look out for photos from this outstanding launch event. Thank you to everyone that attended and planned this event.
And just this last Tuesday, our Health Care Policy Innovation Team introduced its Honorary Co-Chair Drew Kearney during our policy call focusing on Medicare, Medicaid, and the important roles these programs play. Thank you to everyone that attended and to Co-Chair Kearney for leading this discussion.
NLC4 updates their event calendar frequently, so please check back often: http://www.nlc4.org/nlc_events_calendarAs you can see there is a lot going on, in our 44 regions nationwide. But none of this would be possible without our dedicated Chapter Leaders and of course, our NLC Fellows.Don’t forget to nominate a potential Fellow and to to join us at an event soon.
